Email FAQ Answers
Find the account settings for your email client program. We recommend the Mozzilla Thunderbird email client. Set the incoming mail server to mail.telescience.net. The incoming server type is POP3. Make sure any settings for secure connections (SSL or SMTP Auth) are disabled. Set the outgoing mail server to smtp.telescience.net. Again, make sure that any secure connection settings are disabled.
- I have an email account at another provider, and when I try to send email I get an error message. What's wrong?
As a spam prevention measure, nearly all networks do not allow mail coming from IP addresses originating from outside of their own network to relay through their mail servers. Some providers support a protocol called SMTP Auth. Once you have setup SMTP Auth access with your provider you will be able to send mail from any external network. Contact your provider to see if they support SMTP Auth. As a workaround, you will need to set the outgoing mail server for that account depending upon which network you are on at the time. When you are connected to the Telescience network, set the outgoing mail server to mail.telescience.net
